Katherine and Surrounds, Northern Territory, Australia
A relatively remote destination, Katherine is a town nestled on the banks of the Katherine River, a mere 30 minutes from the world renowned Katherine Gorge in the renamed Nitmiluk National Park. Directly in the path of the Sturt Highway that connects the North to the South, it has a pioneering history dating back to the 1800’s. From here, its surrounding regions stretch from the Gulf of Carpentaria in the east, to the West Australian border, encompassing the Daly and Victoria Rivers regions, and to the south, the area made famous by the novel “We of the Never Never”. Katherine and its surrounds, with its unique and diverse eco systems, is a haven for fishing, camping, four wheel driving and bushwalking.
