Alice Springs is the most famous of the Northern Territory outback towns. It is framed on both sides by the majestic MacDonnell Ranges. The history and heritage of this outback town is everywhere. The surrounding area has many natural treasures. The Simpson Desert, which stretches from the south of Alice Springs has the Rainbow Valley and Chambers Pillar. The Finke Gorge National Park has Palm Valley and one of the oldest rivers in the world, the Finke River. The West MacDonnell Ranges has Simpsons Gap, Stanley Chasm and beautiful swimming holes like Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge and Redbank Gorge while the East MacDonnell Ranges has Trephina Gorge.
